Gold Museum
Our excursion to the MUSEO ORO DEL PERU allows us to appreciate a dazzling collection of gold pieces from various pre-Columbian cultures, some with more than 3,000 years old. Incalculable goldsmith objects and jewels are exhibited, worked in gold, silver and precious stones, highlighting the ornaments and objects that the Incas, children of the Sun God and monarchs of the vast Inca Empire used in their time of splendor. The fame of Peru's gold attracted numerous European adventurers 500 years ago and was the cause of the end of the Inca empire, giving rise to the Viceroyalty of Peru under the Spanish Crown.
The Gold Museum of Peru also exhibits a valuable collection of ancient and modern weapons that are considered one of the best of its kind worldwide. In these rooms armor, uniforms and objects from various times and places are displayed, some even dating back to 1,300 BC. This sample is known as the World Weapons Museum.
